28 Nov MDOT plans meeting to discuss 2019 Marquette Township roundabout project – Wednesday, December 6th

The MI Department of Transportation (MDOT) along with Marquette Township and the MI Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) is inviting the public to a meeting to discuss the planned 2019 US41 reconstruction and roundabout project, which also proposes to include a multi-use trail and tunnel in Marquette Township.  There will be a short presentation at 5pm followed by a Q & A period.  There will be opportunities for residents and business owners to ask questions or speak one-on-one with MDOT, Marquette Township, and MDNR officials.

This will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 from 4:30 – 7 pm at the Marquette Township Hall located at 1000 Commerce Drive in Marquette.

Special accommodations available upon request.  Please call 517-373-2227 to request at least seven days before meeting date.

BACKGROUND:  In 2019, MDOT plans to reconstruct US41 between Marquette County Road 492 to just west of Brickyard Road, extending the existing boulevard roadway.  The westbound lanes will be moved north to accommodate space needed for the divided highway.  The 2019 project includes replacing signalized intersections at Brickyard Road and at County Road 492 near WalMart and Target with roundabouts, along with constructing left-turn lanes, or “Michigan Lefts.”

The budget for the 2019 highway project is estimated at $6.7 million, with another $2.5 million estimated for the proposed multi-use trail and tunnel.
